Khatti Dal

Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Curry leaves - A sprig
- Garlic cloves - 4, finely chopped
- Dry red chillies - 2
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- For tempering: mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 3 cups
- Salt - to taste
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Tamarind pulp - 2 tablespoons
- Toor dal - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Wash the toor dal and add it to a pressure cooker with water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the dal is soft and mushy.
- Once the dal is cooked, add the tamarind pulp and mix well. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, chopped garlic, and curry leaves for tempering.
- Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add this tempering to the dal and mix well.
- Let the dal simmer for a few more minutes for the flavors to blend together.
- Serve the Khatti Dal hot with rice or roti.
