  1. Wash the toor dal and add it to a pressure cooker with water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the dal is soft and mushy.
  2. Once the dal is cooked, add the tamarind pulp and mix well. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  3. In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, chopped garlic, and curry leaves for tempering.
  4. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add this tempering to the dal and mix well.
  5. Let the dal simmer for a few more minutes for the flavors to blend together.
  6. Serve the Khatti Dal hot with rice or roti.
