Khao Tom
Khao Tom is a comforting Thai breakfast rice soup that's also beneficial for digestion. It's made with jasmine rice, protein of choice, and flavored with garlic, soy sauce, and cilantro.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- White pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Cilantro - A handful, chopped
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Chicken or pork - 1 cup, minced
- Water - 6 cups
- Jasmine rice - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the rinsed rice and cook on medium heat for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is soft and the water has a creamy consistency.
- In a separate pan, sauté the minced garlic until golden. Add the minced chicken or pork and cook until no longer pink.
- Season the meat with soy sauce, fish sauce, and white pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the cooked meat into the rice soup and stir well.
- Serve the soup hot, garnished with chopped cilantro and spring onions.
