Kalops
Kalops is a traditional Swedish beef stew made with tender beef, root vegetables, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Allspice berries - 6
- Bay leaves - 2
- Red wine - 1 cup
- Beef broth - 4 cups
- Potatoes - 4 medium, cubed
- Carrots - 3 medium, sliced
- Onion - 1 large, chopped
- Beef chuck roast - 2 pounds, cubed
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and sliced carrots. Cook until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Return the beef cubes to the pot and sprinkle with flour. Stir well to coat the beef and vegetables.
- Pour in the beef broth and red wine. Add the bay leaves and allspice berries. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 2-3 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Add the cubed potatoes to the pot and continue simmering for an additional 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
