Kakiage
Kakiage is a type of Tempura made with mixed vegetables. It's a popular Japanese dish that's crispy, light, and delicious.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Soy sauce - For dipping
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Water - 1 cup, ice cold
- Tempura batter mix - 1 cup
- Shrimp - 8, peeled and deveined
- Bell pepper - 1, thinly sliced
- Onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Carrot - 1, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the carrot, onion, bell pepper, and shrimp.
- In a separate bowl, mix the tempura batter with the ice cold water until it forms a thin batter.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
- Dip the vegetable and shrimp mixture into the batter, making sure everything is well coated.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the battered mixture into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the kakiage from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with soy sauce for dipping.
