Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. In a bowl, mix gram flour, yogurt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt and water. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add chopped onion, green chilies, minced garlic and grated ginger. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  4. Pour the gram flour and yogurt mixture into the pan. Stir continuously until it comes to a boil.
  5. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. In the meantime, prepare pakoras by mixing gram flour, chopped onions, green chilies, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and a little water. Mix well to make a thick batter.
  7. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Add the fried pakoras to the simmering kadhi. Cook for another 10 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
