Jianbing
Jianbing is a traditional Chinese street food similar to crepes. It is a type of bing generally eaten for breakfast and is known for its crispy texture and flavorful fillings.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fried crispy wonton strips - 1/2 cup
- Lettuce leaves - 4
- Cooking oil - As needed
- Chili sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Eggs - 4
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and cornstarch. Gradually add water while stirring to create a smooth batter.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly grease with cooking oil.
- Pour a ladle of batter into the pan and quickly swirl it around to form a thin, round crepe.
- Crack an egg onto the crepe and spread it around with the back of a spoon.
- Sprinkle chopped green onions over the egg.
- Flip the crepe and brush the cooked side with soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and chili sauce.
- Place a lettuce leaf in the center of the crepe and sprinkle with crispy wonton strips.
- Fold the crepe in half and then fold again to form a quarter circle.
- Cook for another minute on each side until crispy.
- Repeat with the remaining batter and fillings.
- Serve hot.
