Onion and Pea Pulao

Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and cloves, and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the pan and cook until they are golden brown.
  4. Add the green peas to the pan and cook for a few more minutes.
  5. Add the drained rice to the pan and stir to combine with the onions and peas. Cook for a few minutes until the rice is lightly toasted.
  6. Add the salt and water to the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
