Onion and Pea Pulao
A flavorful Indian rice dish cooked with onions, peas, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt - To taste
- Cloves - 4
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Green peas - 1 cup
- Onions - 2, thinly sliced
- Basmati rice - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and cloves, and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions to the pan and cook until they are golden brown.
- Add the green peas to the pan and cook for a few more minutes.
- Add the drained rice to the pan and stir to combine with the onions and peas. Cook for a few minutes until the rice is lightly toasted.
- Add the salt and water to the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
