Jeera Biryani with Basmati Rice
Jeera Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic rice dish made with basmati rice and cumin seeds.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Water - 4 cups
- Ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - To taste
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cardamom pods - 4
- Cloves - 4
- Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
- Green chili - 2, slit
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Onion - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Cumin seeds - 2 teaspoons
- Basmati rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Wash the basmati rice under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and bay leaf. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, and slit green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
- Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pot. Stir well to coat the rice with the spices.
- Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and fluffy.
- Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- Drizzle with lemon juice before serving.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
