Huoshao
Huoshao is a traditional Chinese baked wheaten cake, often filled with meat or vegetables. This recipe is for a simple, plain huoshao.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Warm water - 300 ml
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Yeast - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Gradually add the warm water, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours, until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it with your hand.
- Brush the tops of the cakes with sesame oil.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cakes are golden brown.
