Homemade Tortillas

Ingredients - Serves 16

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and mix with your fingers until the flour resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Slowly add the warm water and mix until a loose, sticky ball is formed.
  4. Knead for two minutes on a floured surface. Dough should be firm and soft.
  5. Place dough in a bowl and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap for 20 minutes.
  6. After the dough has rested, break off a golf size piece of dough and roll out on floured surface. Each piece should be about 6-7 inches in diameter.
  7. Heat a large pan to medium-high heat.
  8. Place each tortilla into the pan and cook until bubbly and golden; flip and continue cooking until golden on the other side.
  9. Place the cooked tortilla in a tortilla warmer; if you do not have a tortilla warmer, you can wrap in a towel. Repeat with remaining dough.
