Homemade Tortillas
These homemade tortillas are soft, pliable and have a great flavor. They're perfect for tacos, burritos, enchiladas or simply to enjoy with some salsa and guacamole.
Ingredients - Serves 16
- Warm water - 3/4 cup
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the vegetable oil and mix with your fingers until the flour resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly add the warm water and mix until a loose, sticky ball is formed.
- Knead for two minutes on a floured surface. Dough should be firm and soft.
- Place dough in a bowl and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap for 20 minutes.
- After the dough has rested, break off a golf size piece of dough and roll out on floured surface. Each piece should be about 6-7 inches in diameter.
- Heat a large pan to medium-high heat.
- Place each tortilla into the pan and cook until bubbly and golden; flip and continue cooking until golden on the other side.
- Place the cooked tortilla in a tortilla warmer; if you do not have a tortilla warmer, you can wrap in a towel. Repeat with remaining dough.
