Gua Bao
Gua Bao is a popular Taiwanese street food. It's a steamed bun filled with braised pork belly, pickled mustard greens, coriander, and ground peanuts.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Ground peanuts - 50 grams
- Coriander - A handful
- Pickled mustard greens - 100 grams
- Bao buns - 8
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Star anise - 2
- Rice wine - 50 ml
- Soy sauce - 50 ml
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Pork belly - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Cut the pork belly into thick slices.
- Heat a pan and add the sugar. Cook until it caramelizes and turns brown.
- Add the pork belly to the pan and cook until it is browned on all sides.
- Add the soy sauce, rice wine, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pan. Cover with water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 2 hours, or until the pork is tender.
- Steam the bao buns according to the package instructions.
- Fill each bun with a slice of pork, some pickled mustard greens, coriander, and ground peanuts.
- Serve hot.
