Gallo Pinto
Gallo Pinto is a traditional Costa Rican dish made with rice, beans, and spices. It is commonly served for breakfast or as a side dish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Salsa lizano (or worcestershire sauce) - 2 tablespoons
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Red bell pepper - 1, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Black beans - 1 cup, cooked
- Cooked white rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion, red bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked rice and black beans to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Add the salsa Lizano (or Worcestershire sauce), salt, and pepper. Stir again to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gallo pinto is heated through.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
- Serve hot as a side dish or as a main course with fried eggs, plantains, and tortillas.
