Fried Okra with Remoulade
Crispy fried okra served with a tangy, creamy remoulade sauce. A perfect appetizer or side dish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Hot sauce - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
- Mayonnaise - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Flour - 1/2 cup
- Cornmeal - 1 cup
- Buttermilk - 1 cup
- Okra - 1 pound, sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, soak the okra in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
- In another bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, and pepper.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Drain the okra and dredge in the cornmeal mixture, shaking off the excess.
- Fry the okra in batches until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- To make the remoulade, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, hot sauce, garlic, and paprika in a small bowl.
- Serve the fried okra with the remoulade on the side.
