Gaeng Som
Gaeng Som is a popular Thai sour curry known for its distinct sour taste. The curry is made from fresh turmeric, shrimp, and lots of vegetables.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetables (cabbage, green beans, cauliflower) - 2 cups, chopped
- Water - 4 cups
- Palm sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Tamarind paste - 2 tablespoons
- Shrimp paste - 1 teaspoon
- Shallots - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Turmeric - 1 tablespoon, fresh and grated
- Shrimp - 200 grams
Let's Get Started
- Blend the turmeric, garlic, shallots, and shrimp paste together in a food processor until it forms a paste.
- In a pot, add the paste and water. Bring to a boil.
- Add the shrimp and vegetables to the pot. Let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add the tamarind paste, fish sauce, and palm sugar. Stir well and let it simmer for another 10 minutes.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve hot with rice.
