Gaeng Som
Gaeng Som is a popular Thai sour curry dish. It's a delicious blend of sour, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetables (cabbage, green beans, etc.) - 2 cups, chopped
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Shallots - 3, peeled
- Thai bird chilies - 5-10, depending on your spice preference
- Water - 4 cups
- Palm sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Tamarind paste - 2 tablespoons
- Shrimp - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Blend the chilies, shallots, garlic, turmeric, and salt together in a food processor until it forms a paste.
- Bring the water to a boil in a large pot.
- Add the paste to the pot and stir well.
- Add the tamarind paste, fish sauce, and palm sugar to the pot. Stir until everything is well combined.
- Add the shrimp and vegetables to the pot. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the shrimp is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. The soup should be sour, spicy, and slightly sweet.
- Serve the curry hot with a side of steamed rice.
