Fresh Tortillas
Homemade tortillas are delicious and easy to make. These tortillas can be used for tacos, burritos, enchiladas, or simply enjoyed on their own.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Warm water - 3/4 cup
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the vegetable oil and mix with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the warm water, stirring until a loose dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
- Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 15 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Roll each dough ball out into a thin circle, about 8 inches in diameter.
- Cook each tortilla in the hot skillet until it starts to bubble and brown spots appear, about 1 minute per side.
- Keep the cooked tortillas warm by wrapping them in a clean kitchen towel until ready to serve.
