French Baguette
This classic French baguette is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Warm water - 1 1/4 cups
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and shape into a long, thin loaf.
- Place the loaf on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Using a sharp knife, make several diagonal slashes across the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
