Flammkuchen
Flammkuchen is a thin crust pizza-like dish, traditionally topped with crème fraîche, thinly sliced onions, and lardons. It's a specialty of the Alsace region in France and is also very popular in Germany.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Nutmeg - A pinch
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Lardons or bacon - 200 grams, diced
- Onions - 2 medium, thinly sliced
- Crème fraîche - 1 cup
- Pizza dough - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to its highest setting, usually around 250°C/480°F.
- Roll out the pizza dough as thin as you can get it. Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the crème fraîche evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Scatter the thinly sliced onions and diced lardons or bacon over the crème fraîche.
- Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and slightly charred.
- Cut into squares and serve immediately.
