Flammekueche
Flammekueche, also known as Tarte Flambée, is a traditional Alsatian dish. It's a thin crust pizza topped with crème fraîche, onions, and lardons.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Nutmeg - A pinch
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Lardons or thick-cut bacon - 1 cup, diced
- Onions - 2, thinly sliced
- Crème fraîche - 1 cup
- Pizza dough - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to its highest setting, usually around 500°F (260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- Roll out the pizza dough as thin as you can, aiming for a rectangle shape if possible.
- Spread the crème fraîche evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Scatter the sliced onions and lardons over the crème fraîche.
- Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Transfer the Flammekueche to the preheated oven (place on the pizza stone if using) and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and the toppings are lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and cut into squares or strips before serving.
