Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brush a baking pan with some of the melted butter.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the pan and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process until you have layered half the phyllo sheets.
  4. Spread the chopped pistachios evenly over the phyllo dough.
  5. Layer the remaining phyllo sheets on top of the pistachios, brushing each one with melted butter.
  6. Cut the layered dough into squares or diamonds and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While the sarma is baking, make the syrup by combining the sugar, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  8. Pour the hot syrup over the baked sarma. Let it cool before serving.
