Durvud Poodash
Durvud Poodash is a traditional Persian dish made with lamb, lentils, and a blend of aromatic spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Water - 4 cups
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cardamom - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Yellow lentils - 1 cup
- Lamb - 1 kg, cubed
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add the cubed lamb and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the lentils, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, salt, and pepper. Stir well to coat the ingredients with the spices.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the lamb and lentils are tender.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and stir in the fresh cilantro and lemon juice.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or bread.
