Dal Tadka
Dal Tadka is a popular Indian dish made of lentils and spices, served with rice or roti.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Coriander leaves - for garnish
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green chili - 1, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 3 cups
- Toor dal - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the toor dal until the water runs clear, then drain.
- In a large pot, combine the toor dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the dal is soft, about 20 minutes.
- In a small pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to pop.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped green chili to the pan and sauté until the garlic is golden.
- Add the red chili powder to the pan and stir to combine.
- Pour the ghee and spice mixture into the pot with the dal and stir to combine.
- Garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
