Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the toor dal until the water runs clear, then drain.
  2. In a large pot, combine the toor dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the dal is soft, about 20 minutes.
  3. In a small pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to pop.
  4. Add the minced garlic and chopped green chili to the pan and sauté until the garlic is golden.
  5. Add the red chili powder to the pan and stir to combine.
  6. Pour the ghee and spice mixture into the pot with the dal and stir to combine.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
