Cocada Preta
Cocada Preta is a popular Brazilian dessert made from coconut and brown sugar, slow-cooked until dark and rich.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Butter - 1 tablespoon
- Condensed milk - 1 can
- Grated coconut - 2 cups
- Water - 1 cup
- Brown sugar - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large saucepan, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
- Add the grated coconut to the saucepan and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes, or until the mixture is dark and sticky.
- Add the condensed milk and butter to the saucepan and stir to combine. Continue to cook for another 15 minutes, or until the mixture is thick and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Pour the mixture into a greased dish and let it cool completely. Once cool, cut into squares and serve.
