Classic Beef Stroganoff
A traditional Russian dish of sautéed pieces of beef served in a sauce with sour cream. From its origins in mid-19th-century Russia, it has become popular around the world.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Parsley - For garnish
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Sour cream - 1 cup
- Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Beef broth - 1 cup
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Mushrooms - 1 cup, sliced
- Onions - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Beef sirloin steak - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the onions, mushrooms, and garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and the mushrooms are browned.
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard to the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
- Return the beef to the skillet and stir in the sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened.
- Serve the beef stroganoff over egg noodles or rice, garnished with parsley.
