Chinese Hamburger
Rou Jia Mo is a popular street food in China, often referred to as a Chinese hamburger. The dish consists of a flavorful, slow-cooked meat filling served in a flatbread bun.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Ginger - 1 piece, sliced
- Bay leaves - 2
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Star anise - 2
- Shaoxing wine - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mo bread - 4 pieces
- Pork belly - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Cut the pork belly into large chunks and place in a pot with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil and cook for a few minutes until the pork changes color.
- Drain the pork and rinse under cold water.
- Return the pork to the pot and add the soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, ginger, garlic, green onions, Szechuan peppercorns, and salt.
- Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, until the pork is tender.
- Remove the pork from the pot and shred it into small pieces.
- Slice the Mo bread in half and fill with the shredded pork.
- Serve hot.
