Chicken Fried Steak
A classic Southern dish, chicken fried steak is a breaded and fried cube steak served with a creamy gravy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Heavy cream - 1/2 cup
- Beef broth - 2 cups
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Eggs - 2
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Cube steak - 4 pieces
Let's Get Started
- Season the cube steaks with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour.
- Beat the eggs with the milk in a separate bowl.
- Dip the floured steaks into the egg mixture, then back into the flour.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the steaks until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side.
- Remove the steaks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Stir in 2 tablespoons of the leftover flour and cook for 2 minutes.
- Whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy is thickened.
- Serve the steaks with the gravy.
