Castro District Cubano Sandwich
A delicious and hearty sandwich that's a staple in the Castro District. It's packed with ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, all served on a crispy Cuban bread.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Butter - For spreading
- Ham - 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Roast pork - 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Dill pickles - 8 slices
- Swiss cheese - 8 slices
- Yellow mustard - 4 tablespoons
- Cuban bread - 1 loaf
Let's Get Started
- Slice the Cuban bread into 4 equal parts, then slice each part in half lengthwise.
- Spread mustard on one side of each bread slice.
- Layer Swiss cheese, pickles, roast pork, and ham on the mustard side of the bread.
- Top with the other half of the bread.
- Spread butter on the outside of the sandwich.
- Heat a pan over medium heat, place the sandwich in the pan, and press it down with a heavy object.
- Cook until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes on each side.
- Remove from the pan, slice in half, and serve.
