A traditional South African appetizer, these Cape Malay Samoosas are filled with a spicy beef and vegetable filling, wrapped in a crispy pastry.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Samoosa wrappers - 24 sheets
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Curry powder - 2 tablespoons
- Peas - 1/2 cup
- Carrot - 1, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Heat a large pan over medium heat and add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink.
- Add the onion, garlic, carrot, peas, curry powder, salt, and pepper to the pan. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the filling cool.
- Take a samoosa wrapper and place a spoonful of the filling on one end. Fold the wrapper over the filling, forming a triangle. Continue folding the wrapper in a triangle shape until you reach the end. Seal the edge with a little water.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the samoosas in batches for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve the Cape Malay Samoosas hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
