Calzone Di Cipolla
A delicious Italian turnover filled with caramelized onions and cheese.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Pizza dough - 1 pound
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Onions - 4 large, thinly sliced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 475°F.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and salt and cook until the onions are caramelized, about 15 minutes.
- Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle. Spread the caramelized onions over half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the onions.
- Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-circle. Crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the top of the calzone with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the calzone is golden brown.
