Briouat
Briouat is a traditional Moroccan pastry that is filled with meat, cheese, or vegetables and then fried or baked until golden. This recipe uses a savory filling of spiced ground beef and onions.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Phyllo dough - 12 sheets
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is tender.
- Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut the phyllo dough into strips and brush each strip with melted butter.
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture at one end of each strip. Fold the dough over the filling, forming a triangle. Continue folding, maintaining the triangle shape, until you reach the end of the strip.
- Place the briouats on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with more melted butter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
