Boston Cream Ice Cream

Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until well combined.
  3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool completely.
  6. Once cooled, transfer the custard to an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  7. While the ice cream is churning, prepare the chocolate ganache by melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  8. Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, layer it in a container with the crumbled yellow cake and drizzle with the chocolate ganache. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used.
  9. Cover the container and freeze the ice cream for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
  10. Serve the Boston Cream Ice Cream in bowls or cones and enjoy!
