Boeber
Boeber is a creamy, milky, and deliciously sweet drink made from vermicelli, sago, sugar, and flavoured with cardamom, stick cinnamon, and rose water. It's a traditional South African Cape Malay recipe, often enjoyed during the month of Ramadan.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Almond slivers - For garnish
- Rose water - 1 teaspoon
- Stick cinnamon - 1
- Cardamom - 5 pods
- Sugar - 200g
- Milk - 2 litres
- Sago - 50g
- Vermicelli - 50g, broken into smaller pieces
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the vermicelli and cook until it turns golden brown.
- Add the sago, milk, sugar, cardamom, and stick cinnamon. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the sago is transparent and the mixture has thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the rose water.
- Serve warm, garnished with almond slivers.
