Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun is a classic Indian sweet made with milk solids, sugar, rose water and cardamom. The dough balls are deep-fried and soaked in a sugar syrup for a sweet and fragrant dessert.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- Rose water - 1 teaspoon
- Cardamom - 1 teaspoon, crushed
- Water - 2 cups
- Sugar - 2 cups
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
- Baking soda - 1/4 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Milk powder - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, mix together the milk powder, flour, and baking soda.
- Add the melted butter and mix well.
- Gradually add the milk and knead into a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll into smooth balls.
- In a deep pan, heat the oil and deep fry the dough balls until golden brown.
- In another pan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil.
- Add the cardamom and rose water to the sugar syrup.
- Add the fried dough balls to the syrup and let them soak for at least 2 hours before serving.
