  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle half of the blackberries over the batter.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  9. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the blackberries.
  10. Repeat the layers with the remaining batter, blackberries, and brown sugar mixture.
  11. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
