Beacon Hill Bolognese
A rich and hearty Bolognese sauce that is perfect for a cozy dinner at home. This recipe is inspired by the classic Italian dish, with a few tweaks to make it extra delicious.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Pasta - 1 pound, cooked
- Parmesan cheese - For serving
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Bay leaves - 2
- Canned tomatoes - 1 can (28 ounces), crushed
- Red wine - 1 cup
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Ground pork - 1 pound
- Ground beef - 1 pound
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Celery - 2 stalks, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 large, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and pork and cook until browned, about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.
