Pastitsio
Pastitsio is a delicious Greek lasagna layered with pasta, meat sauce, and creamy béchamel sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Parmesan cheese - 1 cup, grated
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Milk - 4 cups
- Flour - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Allspice - 1/4 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red wine - 1/2 cup
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 500 grams
- Pasta - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large pan, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onions are soft.
- Add the tomato paste, wine, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper to the pan and simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a separate pot, melt the butter and add the flour, stirring until smooth.
- Gradually add the milk to the pot, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the pot from the heat and slowly add the beaten eggs and Parmesan cheese, stirring until smooth.
- Layer half of the pasta in a baking dish, followed by the meat sauce, the remaining pasta, and finally the béchamel sauce.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
