Banh Beo
Banh Beo is a traditional Vietnamese dish consisting of steamed rice cakes topped with savory ingredients.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Ground black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Fried shallots - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Pork belly - 1/4 cup, thinly sliced
- Dried shrimp - 1/4 cup, soaked and chopped
- Water - 1 1/2 cups
- Rice flour - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, water, salt, and vegetable oil. Stir until smooth.
- Grease a steamer tray with oil and pour a thin layer of the rice flour mixture onto the tray.
- Steam the rice cakes for about 5 minutes, or until set.
- In a pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the pork belly and cook until crispy.
- Add the dried shrimp and cook for another 2 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the fish sauce, sugar, and ground black pepper.
- To serve, place the steamed rice cakes on a plate. Top with the pork belly and dried shrimp mixture.
- Drizzle the fish sauce mixture over the rice cakes.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and fried shallots.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
