Bangladeshi Fish Curry
This flavorful Bangladeshi fish curry is made with a blend of spices and fresh fish, simmered in a rich and aromatic sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh coriander leaves - For garnish
- Mustard oil - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - To taste
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Green chilies - 2, slit
- Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Fish fillets - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Clean and wash the fish fillets. Marinate them with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the fish fillets until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add more oil if needed. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for another minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the spices are well combined.
- Add a little water to form a thick gravy. Bring it to a simmer.
- Gently place the fried fish fillets into the gravy. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the flavors are well infused.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
