Bak Kut Teh
Bak Kut Teh is a popular Malaysian and Singaporean dish consisting of pork ribs cooked in a flavorful herbal broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Chopped spring onions - For garnish
- White pepper powder - To taste
- Salt - To taste
- Water - 6 cups
- Chinese herbs (e.g. dang gui, yu zhu, etc.) - A handful
- Rock sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Oyster sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Light soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Dark soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- White pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger - 2-inch piece, sliced
- Garlic - 6 cloves, minced
- Pork ribs - 1 kg
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil.
- Add the pork ribs, garlic, ginger, white pepper, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce, rock sugar, and Chinese herbs.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the pork ribs are tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Season with salt and white pepper powder to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
