Arepas with Pulled Pork

Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the pork shoulder and sear on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
  6. Cover the pot and transfer to the preheated oven.
  7. Roast for 3-4 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  8. Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks.
  9. Heat the arepas according to package instructions.
  10. Slice each arepa in half and fill with the pulled pork.
  11. Top with sliced avocado, tomato, red onion, and chopped cilantro.
  12. Serve with lime wedges for squeezing over the arepas.
