Arepas with Pulled Pork
These delicious arepas are filled with tender pulled pork and topped with your favorite toppings.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Lime wedges - For serving
- Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Red onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Avocado - 1, sliced
- Arepas - 4
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Smoked paprika - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
- Pork shoulder - 2 pounds
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Add the pork shoulder and sear on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
- Cover the pot and transfer to the preheated oven.
- Roast for 3-4 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks.
- Heat the arepas according to package instructions.
- Slice each arepa in half and fill with the pulled pork.
- Top with sliced avocado, tomato, red onion, and chopped cilantro.
- Serve with lime wedges for squeezing over the arepas.
