Vietnamese Pho

A traditional Vietnamese soup consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs, and meat. This recipe uses beef as the main protein.

Vietnamese Pho

Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Char the onions and ginger over an open flame (either on a grill or gas stove).
  2. Place the beef bones in a large pot filled with water. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.
  3. Drain the bones and rinse under warm water. Clean the pot and return the bones to the pot.
  4. Add the charred onions, ginger, star anise, cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and coriander seeds to the pot.
  5. Fill the pot with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1-2 hours.
  6. Strain the broth and return to the pot. Stir in the fish sauce and salt.
  7. Soak the rice noodles in warm water for 30 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  8. Divide the noodles among 4 bowls. Top with the beef slices, scallions, and cilantro.
  9. Pour the hot broth over the noodles, cooking the beef slices.
  10. Serve with bean sprouts and lime wedges on the side.
