Yong Tau Foo
Yong Tau Foo is a popular Malaysian and Singaporean dish consisting of stuffed tofu and vegetables served in a flavorful broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Chicken broth - 4 cups
- Water spinach - 1 bunch
- Fish cake - 8 slices
- Fish balls - 8 pieces
- Bean curd skin - 8 pieces
- Red chili - 2, sliced
- Eggplant - 1, sliced
- Bitter melon - 1, sliced
- Fish paste - 200g
- Tofu - 8 pieces
Let's Get Started
- Prepare the stuffing by mixing the fish paste with salt, pepper, and sesame oil.
- Stuff the tofu, bitter melon, eggplant, red chili, bean curd skin, fish balls, and fish cake with the prepared stuffing.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the stuffed ingredients for 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In a separate pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer.
- Add the blanched stuffed ingredients, water spinach, soy sauce, and oyster sauce to the simmering broth.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the vegetables are cooked and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve the Yong Tau Foo hot in bowls with the broth.
- Garnish with additional sliced red chili, if desired.
