Yakiniku
Yakiniku is a Japanese style of grilling bite-sized pieces of meat and vegetables. It is often enjoyed with a variety of dipping sauces.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Assorted vegetables (bell peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, etc.) - 2 cups, sliced
- Beef (sirloin, ribeye, or tenderloin) - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, sake, mirin, sugar, garlic, and sesame oil to make the marinade.
- Place the thinly sliced beef in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated beef slices onto skewers, alternating with the sliced vegetables.
- Grill the skewers for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness and the vegetables are tender.
- Remove the skewers from the grill and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve the yakiniku skewers with steamed rice and dipping sauces of your choice.
