Vietnamese Pho Bo
Pho Bo is a traditional Vietnamese beef noodle soup, known for its flavorful broth and tender beef slices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Hoisin sauce - To taste
- Sriracha sauce - To taste
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
- Fresh herbs (thai basil, cilantro, mint) - 1 cup, chopped
- Bean sprouts - 1 cup
- Rice noodles - 8 oz
- Beef brisket - 1 lb, thinly sliced
- Cloves - 3
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Star anise - 2 pods
- Ginger - 2-inch piece, sliced
- Onion - 1 large, halved
- Beef bones - 2 lbs
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, add the beef bones, onion, ginger, star anise, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Cover with water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours, skimming off any impurities that rise to the surface.
- Remove the beef bones and strain the broth. Discard the solids.
- Return the broth to the pot and bring to a boil.
- Add the sliced beef brisket and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the beef is cooked through.
- Meanwhile, cook the rice noodles according to package instructions.
- Divide the cooked noodles among serving bowls.
- Top the noodles with the cooked beef brisket slices.
- Pour the hot broth over the noodles and beef.
- Serve the pho bo with bean sprouts, fresh herbs, lime wedges, sriracha sauce, and hoisin sauce on the side.
