Vegan Chili Cheese Dogs
These vegan chili cheese dogs are made with plant-based sausages, homemade chili, and dairy-free cheese.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
- Dairy-free cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 2 teaspoons
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Canned diced tomatoes - 1 can
- Canned kidney beans - 1 can, drained and rinsed
- Bell pepper - 1, diced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, diced
- Hot dog buns - 4
- Vegan sausages - 4
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the grill or stovetop grill pan.
- Grill the vegan sausages until heated through and slightly charred, about 5 minutes per side.
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the drained kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Simmer the chili for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Place the grilled sausages in the hot dog buns.
- Top each sausage with a generous amount of the homemade chili.
- Sprinkle dairy-free cheese on top of the chili.
- Place the chili cheese dogs under the broiler for a few minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
