Vazhaipoo Vada
Vazhaipoo Vada is a popular South Indian snack made with banana flower, chana dal, and spices. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - For deep frying
- Salt - To taste
- Curry leaves - A sprig, chopped
- Fennel seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chillies - 2, finely chopped
- Onions - 1, finely chopped
- Chana dal - 1 cup, soaked for 2 hours
- Vazhaipoo (banana flower) - 1, cleaned and chopped
Let's Get Started
- Drain the soaked chana dal and keep a handful of it aside.
- Grind the rest of the chana dal with fennel seeds and green chillies into a coarse mixture without adding water.
- In a bowl, mix the ground mixture, the chana dal kept aside, chopped onions, vazhaipoo, curry leaves, and salt.
- Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.
- Make small balls of the mixture, flatten them and drop them in the hot oil.
- Fry the vadas until they turn golden brown.
- Drain the vadas on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or ketchup.
