Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Wash the idli rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds. Soak them in water for 4-6 hours.
  2. Drain the water and grind the soaked ingredients into a smooth batter. Add water as needed.
  3. Transfer the batter to a large bowl and add salt. Mix well and let it ferment overnight or for 8-10 hours.
  4. Heat a tawa or griddle on medium heat. Grease it with oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the tawa and spread it in a circular motion to form a thick pancake.
  6. Sprinkle chopped onions, tomatoes, green chili, and coriander leaves on top of the batter.
  7. Drizzle some oil around the edges of the uthappam.
  8. Cook until the bottom side turns golden brown. Flip and cook the other side until cooked through.
  9. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
