Unagi
Unagi Don is a popular Japanese dish consisting of grilled eel served over a bed of steamed rice.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Green onions - 2 stalks, thinly sliced
- Nori (seaweed) - 2 sheets, cut into thin strips
- Japanese rice - 2 cups, cooked
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Unagi (freshwater eel) - 2 fillets
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.
- Grill the unagi fillets for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the unagi from the grill and brush both sides with the prepared sauce.
- Place the unagi back on the grill for another 1-2 minutes on each side, brushing with more sauce as needed.
- Remove the unagi from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Slice the unagi into thin pieces.
- Divide the cooked rice into bowls and top with the sliced unagi.
- Garnish with nori strips, sliced green onions, and sesame seeds.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
