Uhmook
Uhmook is a popular Korean street food made from fish paste and various seasonings. It is often enjoyed as a snack or added to soups and stews.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green onion - 2 stalks, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 small, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Potato starch - 2 tablespoons
- White fish fillets - 500g
Let's Get Started
- In a food processor, blend the white fish fillets until smooth.
- Transfer the fish paste to a mixing bowl and add potato starch, chopped onion, carrot, green onion, minced garlic, soy sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Take a small portion of the fish mixture and shape it into a flat oval-shaped patty. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
- Place the fish cakes in the heated pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- In a separate pot, bring water to a boil. Add the cooked fish cakes and simmer for 5 minutes to enhance the flavors.
- Serve the Uhmook hot as an appetizer or add it to soups and stews.
