Turkish Delight
Turkish Delight, also known as Lokum, is a sweet treat of Turkish origin, made of sugar, cornstarch, and flavorings.
Ingredients - Serves 20
- Powdered sugar - 1/2 cup
- Red food coloring - 2 drops
- Rosewater - 1/2 cup
- Cream of tartar - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 1 cup
- Sugar - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, 1/2 cup cornstarch, cream of tartar and 4 cups of water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture boils.
- Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for an hour, stirring frequently.
- Add rosewater and food coloring, stir well.
- Pour mixture into a 9-inch pan lined with a mixture of powdered sugar and cornstarch, ensuring all sides are coated.
- Let it cool in the refrigerator overnight.
- The next day, cut the Turkish Delight into squares and coat each piece in the powdered sugar and cornstarch mixture to prevent sticking.
